Reviews
Not so much a song but an achievement! Incredible Stuff!
Marc Riley (BBC6 Music)

This track is Awesome.....
Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1 INMWT)

Supporting with plays on my show...
John Kennedy (xposure) (XFM)

Had the band in for a session track and supporting
Gideon Coe (BBC 6 Music)

Although the song sounds unique it does at times emit comparisons with mid-point Radiohead, Super Furry Animals and Beck amongst others. 4 out 5
Ian Snell (City Lifers Manchester)

Glitchy electro meets thumping beats, and it´s all shackled to a vocal that´s so rapid fire. Addictive stuff though
Matt (Call Upon the Author)

it´s a bold, challenging, largely successful experiment in the welding of Sonic Youth and Pavement overlaid with a sneering British punk aesthetic.
Sam Monk (Last Broadcast)

The hundred-mile-an-hour vocals alone show this song is full of energy, and the catchy chorus has me hooked
Lucie Viner (The Yorker)

Welcome to Mash & Munkee!

Mash & Munkee aka David & Kolja from Germany got to know each other through the music database discogs. Their discussion was started by an old Jack to Phono release by Beatphreak and weirdly Mash & Munkee was founded in 2006! Four years later we find ourselves releasing "The Good Vibe" & "Sunny Day" on vinyl as our 21st release.

Already having fans including Slim from (Goodgroove) and Smoove from (Jalepeno)The Good Vibe is set to catapult our German friends Mash & Munkee into the UK Funk scene. After hearing the story we at Jack to Phono simply had to make this release happen.

You can have a sneak preview of The Good Vibe at www.myspace.com/jacktophono. It is released on Feb 22nd on vinyl & Digital download on Kudos Distribution. There will be a special download only remix package featuring our old label man Flevans & Vono Box available from March 8th.

After the success of Phase 5 Stereo "Mambo Schmambo" over a year ago here comes their 2 installment of fruitful dance floor funk.

Side A -Keep On Truckin-
This drum drenched Country funk styled hoedown is definitely one for those people who like to express there individuality on the dance floor. Keep On Truckin tilts it’s hat towards those good ol country and western truckers of the day. A Bouncing 16 wheeler haulin ass through "Deliverance" country. Catchy vocal hooks & live instrumentation even live harmonica compliment the well baked backline.
The only way to describe this song is it’s a bar brawl between Burt Reynolds (Smokey And The Bandit) & a College Marching band which ends in a united Line dance. Yeehaa!!!!. A definite party starter.

Side B -Drop A Dime-

Think a B-Boy street battle between Roger Troutman (California Love ) & Detective Lt Mike Stone from the Streets of San Francisco, but hold on here long comes Perez Prado and His Latin Orchestra. um’ who would win???

Drop A Dime originally started out as a rework/ tribute to "Heavy Action" a piece of music composed by Johnny Pearson for the BBC television series "Superstars" back in the 80’s. After messing around with the arrangement, adding an electronic kit & vocoder it soon started morphing in to a hard hitting theme tune in it’s self. It can only be described as a seriously full bodied b-boy battle tool with a cheeky nutty undertone (thanks to Perez).

Dr Stereo in the House!

Jack to Phono has for it´s nineteenth vinyl release has been rewarded by it´s fantastic scouting network. We received a call from our Southern American scout from a dusty cellar full of 2nd hand vinyl somewhere in downtown Buenos Aires. Cries of "Argentina" , "Argentina" were heard down a crackly mobile and the words...."DR STEREO..!"

This boy can certainly play , the funky beats, the percussion, the jazzy breaks over the half way line, we had to sign him up to team Jack to Phono! "Hear the Difference is psychedelic piece of hipshakin soul fuelled with tones of stereophonic sounds!" The Remixes are by Tom Eno & Tombee...

Receiving support from Kid Loco, Smoove, Jelly Jazz & Paul Murphy.....

Tom Eno’s BARNSTORMER!

Tom Eno steps forward for Jack to Phono’s 6th album this autumn on the back of his previous two previous 7 inch singles. The album, Barnstormer!, features collaborations with Mr James Bright (Tape Club) & Rose Pryce on vocals. Hailing from downtown Winchester both Tom & James have been turning heads in 09 with some hefty praise from heavyweight DJs & tastemakers alike including Rob Da Bank & Hotel Costes.

Using his classical Spanish/Jazz guitar blend and inspiration from the likes of classic jazz masters such as Charlie Byrd and Django Reinhardt, alongside classical guitarists such as Sergovia and Villa Lobos, Tom creates his ownrather distinctive style. In recent months he has been working with new vocalists Mr James Bright and Rose Pryce to add a new dimension to his work.

Tom was signed by Jack to Phono Records in 2006. He is now releasing his debut long player after 2 singles and several remixes including The Seal Cub Clubbing Club and Cookshop Records. He has also had a track included on the Hotel Costes series and collaborated with German label Jazz & Milk and Argentinian producer Dr Stereo. The early gigs in The Jazz Cafe, Big Chill House and The Bedford in London have been well received. We are set fair for the up and coming Barnstormer tour! We have dates confirmed in London..first with the Caulbearers at The Halo Bar in Battersea on October 24th and also at The Slaughtered Lamb on December 2nd with the brilliant Tape Club Records and Mr James Bright.

Tombee’s 09

Tombee has had a busy 09 on JTP releasing his third single The Godfather and remixing the likes of the SCCC & Dr Stereo and generally receiving praise all over the globe. He has also collaborated with Alastair Lee’s Kendal Mountain Film Festival award winning climbing films .. He’s now back in the studio working on the 4th release and remixing for Mr Confuse.

Tombee serves up his third dish on Jack to Phono Records! Godfathers follows on from Sticky Rhythm but with more of a hip hop vibe. The Cheeky Newcastle based producer has an ear for delivering the knockout dancefloor hook.

Tombee has been a busy boy since his last single on JTP. He’s been remixing for the likes of The Seal Cub Clubbing, Pulp Fusion and Doctor Stereo. He’s also has a track included on the DJ’s choice compilation and rumours of another. Indeed he’s also been designing trainers for the likes of Lack of Afro. He’s also working with new producers such as Vital Substance and Winter North Atlantic. "It’s nice to have been able to help people out and also nice to get back the results, that are very varied but all pretty cool in their own way."

You see Tombee has many strings to his bow..

Back to the release! On the flip we have a rather special appearance from Brighton’s own Black Grass. Tombee’s reaction is one of a kid in a sweet shop!

"Black grass - just awesome... I couldn’t believe it when they agreed to remix it, I just love their tune Nice up. When I heard what they’d done it was mixed emotions. It was a case of that’s amazing!!! I couldn’t of hoped for anything better - and then - oh no! My mix is never gonna get played now. I seriously love what they done with it"
